Renewal
Keeping a Michigan medical marijuana card current helps patients maintain uninterrupted program access. Renewal also keeps the patient’s certification, MMMP registration, and card information updated with the state.
Does an Ann Arbor Medical Marijuana Card Need Renewal?
Yes. Michigan medical marijuana cards expire and must be renewed to remain valid. Patients should check the expiration date on their registry card and begin renewal early to help avoid a lapse in access.
How Does the Renewal Process Work?
Renewing a medical marijuana card generally includes these steps:
Complete a New Physician Review: A Michigan-licensed physician, either an MD or DO, reviews the patient’s current condition and confirms whether the patient still qualifies for Michigan’s medical marijuana program.
Prepare Updated Documents: The renewal process may require a valid Michigan driver’s license, Michigan state ID, or other accepted proof of Michigan residency, along with an updated physician certification.
Send the Renewal to MMMP: Once the physician certification is complete, patients may submit the renewal through the Michigan Medical Marijuana Program. Eligible patients may renew online or by paper application.
Pay the Renewal Charge: The Michigan renewal application fee is $40. This fee is separate from any physician evaluation or consultation cost.
Wait for State Review: After submission, the MMMP reviews the renewal application and supporting materials. If approved, the updated registry card is sent by mail.
How Long Is a Michigan Medical Marijuana Card Valid?
A Michigan medical marijuana registry card is generally valid for two years. Renewing before the expiration date helps prevent a gap in medical cannabis access.
What Does Renewal Cost?
The state renewal fee for a Michigan medical marijuana card is $40. Physician evaluation costs are separate and may vary by provider.
